Summer Composition Intensive at North Park University
Sat. July 19-Sun. July 27, 2026
The Summer Composition Intensive is moving to Chicago! North Park University is a beautiful campus nestled in Chicago's north side. We will be housed in excellent air-conditioned facilities in the music building attached to Anderson Chapel, including a large presentation/workroom, faculty offices for lessons, plentiful practice rooms for private work, a strong Wifi signal, space for food storage, and an area for coffee and tea preparation. There is plenty of free parking on campus as well as the nearby CTA Brown line and several bus routes. Nearby restaurants are abundant and varied. Housing options are in development but will include homestays, dorm space at nearby Northeastern Illinois University, and find-your-own.
This year's 8-day design includes:
• Two resident composers (Zae Munn and Joshua Marquez)
• One guest composer (TBA)
• 5 private lessons
• 4 two-day 'cycles' of presentation/prompt/masterclass
• Short presentations by each participant
• Enrollment limit of 12 with a minimum age of 18; ages typically range from 20 to 65+
• Instructional Fee is $800. This is separate from the more variable housing and food costs
• Homestays are a single payment to your host of $200; dorm costs are not yet known
Applications open on Feb. 1 and end April 1 with notifications made very shortly thereafater. The form will be online and there is no charge. Once submitted, Zae Munn will contact you to request 2 pdf scores and optional sound files.
